On the afternoon of 5th September Bon Accord Lodge No. 3750 celebrated its centenary
The celebration had been much anticipated by the brethren and was honoured by the attendance of VW Bro David Wilkinson, AMetGM, who was accompanied by a contingent of Grand Officers, and who thanked the Worshipful Master and the brethren for their warm welcome. The ceremony was conducted in an exemplary manner by W Bro Jonathan Cooper, MetDepGDC.
W Bro John Brownfield, SLGR, gave an excellent history of the lodge and chapter from its founding in somewhat humble circumstances by a group of temperance brethren who stipulated that there should be no alcohol at the Festive Board. However, the brethren still knew how to enjoy themselves as the 1915 Lodge and (alcohol free) dining fees amounted to over £1,000 per year in today's money.
Bro Wilkinson presented the Worshipful Master with the lodge's centenary warrant and the brethren were informed that they could now display their centenary jewel which was done with appropriate pride and dignity. The Worshipful Master presented Bro Wilkinson with a cheque for £3,000, a wonderful sum of money to donate, which was followed by an informative oration, delivered with much wit and humour, by the Rev John Hughes.
The ceremony was followed by a Festive Board at the Imperial Hotel and keeping in harmony with the lodge's founding members, naturally, no alcohol was served.
